(1) What are the postgraduate programmes being offered in this academic session at the University?
Darjeeling Hills University will be offering NEP 2020 framework compliant two-year postgraduate programmes in this academic session which focus on contemporary advances in the respective disciplines and delves into the rural and urban histories, cultures, languages, and economies of the Eastern Himalayan region, particularly the Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts. Namely, the postgraduate programmes being offered are: (1) MA English and Cultural Studies, (2) MA History, (3) MA Mass Communication, Journalism, and Media Studies, (4) MSc Mathematics, (5) MA Nepali and Himalayan Cultures, and (6) MA Political Science and Public Policy.
(2) I have completed a Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) under the NEP 2020. Am I eligible for the one year postgraduate programme?
In this academic session, Darjeeling Hills University will only be offering two-year postgraduate programmes. If you wish to apply, and are selected in any of the provisional merit lists, you will be admitted to the two-year degree programme.
(3) I have only completed the Sixth Semester (Third Year) in my Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP). Am I eligible to apply for the two-year postgraduate programme at Darjeeling Hills University?
Yes. You are eligible to apply for two year postgraduate programmes at Darjeeling Hills University.
(4) What is the difference between Direct Admission and Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination?
There are the two avenues for admission to postgraduate programmes at Darjeeling Hills University, which differ on the basis of eligibility of different interested applicants.
Direct Admission is the avenue for those applicants who possess an undergraduate Honours, Major or Minor in the academic disciplines for which they are applying to Darjeeling Hills University. For example, if you have an undergraduate Honours, Major or Minor in English, you are eligible for Direct Admission to MA English and Cultural Studies.
Inversely, Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination is the avenue for those applicants who do not possess an undergraduate Honours, Major or Minor in the academic disciplines for which they are applying to Darjeeling Hills University. For example, if you wish to be admitted in MA English and Cultural Studies, but your Honours, Major or Minor is in Mathematics, you will need to demonstrate your eligibility through the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination.
(5) Does applying through Direct Admissions or passing the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination guarantee me a seat in the respective postgraduate programme?
Successfully applying through Direct Admission or securing the qualifying marks in the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination only demonstrates your eligibility for the respective postgraduate programmes. Merit lists (as per government mandated reservation categories) will be prepared on the basis of your CGPA—in case of Direct Admission—or Examination Scores—in case of Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination, and provisional admissions will be offered on the basis of those lists.
(6) What is the minimum qualifying Examination Score required for admission through the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination?
Applicants must score at least 45% (forty-five percent) in the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination to be considered for the Merit Lists.
(7) What is the maximum age for applying to postgraduate programmes at Darjeeling Hills University?
Darjeeling Hills University has had an inclusive admissions policy, and similar to previous year, for all postgraduate programmes, the age of the applicant must not be more than 40 years on the date of application (may be relaxed up to a maximum of five years if the designated competent authority is satisfied with the merit of the case).
(8) I have a BA General Degree without Honours, am I eligible to apply for the postgraduate programmes?
Yes, you are eligible to apply through the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination.
(9) How will the seats be allocated between Direct Admission and Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination?
Seats (as per government mandated reservation categories) will first be offered to those applicants who qualify for the three Merit Lists from Direct Admission. If any seats remain, they will be opened up for the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination (as per the same government mandated reservation categories).
(10) How will eligibility between Major and Minor be considered during the preparation of Merit Lists?
Applicants with Honours or Major in the respective disciplines will be given the first preference in the Merit Lists followed by applicants with Minor in the respective disciplines.
(11) Is there an application fee?
As per government orders, there are no application fees for applying to postgraduate programmes at Darjeeling Hills University, either through Direct Admission, or through Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination.
However, during admissions after publication of Merit Lists, selected candidates will be required to deposit their admission and semester fees to confirm their admission, Else, the seat will be offered to the next candidate on the Merit List.
(12) Where and when will Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination be conducted?
Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination will be conducted in Darjeeling Hills University, ITI Campus, Bhasmey, Mungpoo, District Darjeeling, West Bengal.
Examinations for the following programmes will be conducted on August 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM: (1) MA English and Cultural Studies, (2) MA Nepali and Himalayan Cultures, and (3) MA Political Science and Public Policy
Examinations for the following programmes will be conducted on August 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM: (1) MA History, (2) MA Mass Communication, Journalism, and Media Studies, and (3) MSc Mathematics
(13) Will Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination be cancelled if all seats are filled through Direct Admission?
Yes, Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination will be cancelled if all seats are filled through Direct Admissions. Remaining seats will be declared on August 14, 2026, the same day the application portal for Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination is scheduled to open.
(14) I have a Major in Political Science and a Minor in History, can I apply for two programmes?
Yes, you are eligible to apply for MA Political Science and Public Policy and MA History.
However, you should note that our application portal process is based on unique authentication of mobile phone numbers, therefore, you will need to apply twice using two different phone numbers, preferably belonging to you or your guardian.
(15) Can I apply for multiple programmes in the Darjeeling Hills University Entrance Examination?
Yes, theoretically, you can apply for all programmes in the application portal if you possess an undergraduate degree.
However, as explained above in FAQ (12), you can realistically only appear for two entrance examinations. We would suggest selecting one from each examination date if you wish to submit multiple applications.
